Innovative team owner John T. Brush picked up with the Giants where he left off with the Reds, devising intricate season passes to reward the elite members of his loyal clientele. This special example hearkens back to the 1897 Reds card-deck-and-season-pass combo (also offered in our auction), yet features an autographed John Brush card that was produced to accompany the standard 1908 "Theatrical Actors and Actresses" deck. (A noted theater buff, Brush no doubt enjoyed sharing the limelight with George M. Cohan, Eddie Foy, Lillian Russell, Anna Held, Tyrone Power, Leslie Carter, Julia Marlowe, DeWolf Hopper et al.) Gold-embossed interior lettering reveals the recipient as Staten Island corporate executive Morton W. Smith. Measuring 3-1/2 x 2-3/4 x 3/4", the sturdy, button-clasp leather holder is VG-EX with peripheral exterior wear/rubbing, while the gilt-edged card deck rates NM.
